Disney is canceling its 2018 holiday music-themed musical, Cats Musical, in a move that comes after a string of high-profile musical cancellations across the entertainment industry.
The show, which is expected to air next year, will instead air live on a Disney Channel show called My Way, a new Disney Channel series about people who learn to read, write and speak their native tongues.
The series will also feature original music.
A Disney spokesperson said in a statement that the company is reviewing the cancellation and is “deeply saddened” by the news.
“Cats Musical was an exceptional success and will forever be associated with our fans,” Disney spokesperson Kate Kelly said in the statement.
“We will be working to bring the show to a new home in 2018.”
The show was a hit with critics and audiences and has garnered critical praise.
It also received a Grammy nomination for Best Live Performance, which it won in 2017.
The Cats Musical is one of two Disney musicals that will be made available on YouTube in 2018, along with Mickey Mouse House.
